Citrix XenApp 6.0 and 6.5 Are Now End Of Life (EOL)
As of June 30th, 2018, there are no upgrades, updates or technical support available for either Citrix XenApp 6.5 or XenApp Fundamentals 6.0. The only way to continue in support is to upgrade to a later version, such as Citrix XenApp 7.x, however; as no in-place upgrades can be carried out, a complete migration is required.
To migrate from Citrix 6.x to Citrix 7.x firstly a new Citrix site needs to be created, and then core components need to be installed and configured for the new site. Following this there are various exporting and importing policies and farm data to/from XML files to the new site, there are also various other post-migration tasks. Citrix does provide a migration tool to help with this process. This process is not seen as straightforward and there are some critical limitations including but not limited to:
- Inability to import various application parameters/properties
- Inability to import all policy settings
- Inability to import Publish desktops, content, and streamed applications
- Inability to import Application servers
- Lack of support for Windows Server 2012/R2 and 2016
Faced with this task; along with its limitations, a lot of customers are considering migrating to a different platform completely. The alternative solution to ensure that their infrastructure is future proofed is often Parallels RAS which is cost effective as well as simple to install and configure. Other major benefits are functionality included in the same license, giving customers the ability to publish applications, desktops, and VDI.
By migrating to Parallels RAS you could reduce your current Citrix costs by up to 60%
